It really doesn't say in Jesus we trust...

I was reminded today of a discussion I had with several conservative coworkers about a year ago in which they attempted (unsuccessfully) to show me that our nation was founded as and intended to be a christian nation. This I believe is patently false, clearly neither Thomas Jefferson nor Benjamin Franklin nor many of the other founding fathers were terribly interested in christianity at all. Their primary argument used to prove our nations christianity is the phrase "In God we Trust", this I would just like to note does not say in Jesus we trust, in fact the founding fathers went to pains to state things like "by HIS creator" which are obvious phrases meant to clearly recognize religious freedom and the concept that God is not the same for everyone. It is a terrible myth that this country is or ever was christian and I for one am glad that we are not saddled with religion. Our nation is secular and that is what has and will continue to make it great. Our nation is freedom and science and openness, it is not any one religion or culture or belief structure. So praise Jefferson and not Jesus for that one.

God bless America land of those free to not be christian, or be or not be what ever they damn well please. Amen
